Our Story

Helen’s Sausage House has served a wide variety of breakfast foods, especially sausage sandwiches, to Delaware residents and beyond since first opening its doors in 1983. 

 The original owner, Helen Achenbach opened our Smyrna “store” with a simple menu and a mission to serve up the best breakfast in town. Achenbach’s son, Clifford “Butch” Murphy II, stepped in full time in the early 1990s and found his audience with the truckers and hunters who passed through Smyrna in the early morning. 

Butch’s son, Clifford J. Murphy III has been working off and on at Helen’s since 2002, but in August 2022, took over the restaurant full time. He opening Helen’s second location in Newark in October 2023.
